There's a wide range of ways you can get involved as a volunteer

 workshop volunteer and staff

In the Workshop

As a workshop volunteer you'll work closely with our great team of woodworkers. We want our volunteers to know that every single step of the build process is important. You'll learn a wide range of skills including (but definitely not limited to) building our products from reclaimed timber, how to use power and hand tools, applying finishes, and assisting in the machine shop. And don't worry, you'll be appropriately trained before we expect you to take on any new tasks.

In the Retail Area

As a retail volunteer you'll be part of our friendly and welcoming retail team. You'll be helping our lovely customers find what they're looking for. We'll show you how to complete orders with customers, record sales, sign out completed orders and many more transferrable skills. Before you go out on the shop floor we'll make sure you're properly trained, and there'll always be a team member nearby for any of those tricky questions!

In the Yard & Warehouse

As a yard & warehouse assistant you'll be playing a vital role in what we do here at Glasgow Wood. When reclaimed timber comes in to the yard we need to unload it, grade it, de-nail it and get it ready to get put out in our retail space. You'll also help to prepare orders for our delivery, help the retail team to maintain stock levels and help keep the yard and warehouse tidy. And full training is given on how to use sack trolleys and pallet trucks – we don’t expect you to carry about big bits of wood!

With Deliveries & Collections

You'll be kept busy as a volunteer delivery & collections assistant! Our delivery & collections team are in and out several times a day delivering orders and collecting waste wood for our yard & warehouse team to sort. You'll be helping to load the van, deliver orders and pick up people’s waste wood as part of our collection service. We’ll make sure you’re fully trained on moving and handling before you’re out and about.
